same game - new graphics.

during the week, i think it was wednesday's tutorial, i think ruth broached the issue of revised games. for instance, like how 'street fighter' is now in its fourth version; how 'mario' has been made over several times into several types of games; how we grew up playing 'sonic' but now have the choice to play 'sonic' in 3D and/or even how 'batman' has had several games based on him.

i would like particular attention to games like 'sonic' and 'street fighter'. 'mario' has had several revisions, but he also has had different types of games based on his universe. from 'donkey kong' to 'mario kart'; jumping barrels to race courses...'batman' is similar with the 'batman 2' game, a 2D scroll-left beat 'em up, and now there's 'batman: arkham asylum', where you infiltrate and stealth around to outwit and outfight the joker and other villains.

'street fighter' on the other hand, has gone from looking like this

to looking like this.
i just ended up watching the combos. made me a little nostalgic.

'sonic'. back in the day,

what i'm trying to highlight/ask is that my belief is that if you simply repackage a gift and update said gift with the latest technology available, how different is it? is it the same game? a totally different one? or merely an updated version? what makes people remain loyal to the game, or perhaps allows new players to become fans?

there is individual taste, for sure. but then, i personally believe that the average person who is remotely interested in video games will choose to play particular games, and usually if these games are updated with time, we'll be able to see a long term relationship of game loyalty between the gamer and the game. it doesn't matter if there are flaws in the interface or game story, the emotional investment will probably remain.

however, they may simply prefer to play the version of the game that they're used to.

yeah, that's what i wanted to approach.
