Fantasy vs. Reality

The concept that I view addiction and games to be consists of time wasted sitting in your computer chair and immersing oneself within a game until something more important finally drags you away from the computer. Is this important factor someone that you are involved in a relationship with or may it be a necessity that drags you away? In terms of relationships, I believe that video game addiction may cause consequences upon a relationship of the gamer. I believe that this can be done because the line between fantasy and reality may start to blur after hours of being immersed within a fantasy world. Within a video game relationships are easier to choose and control. Once a gamer is so immersed within a game I believe that this control over a character may blur into real life and when they lose this sense of control with a partner back at home, then the trouble begins. This is showing that videogames are allowing individuals to become someone that they are not.

Are videogames here encouraging fantasy to blur reality and affect social relationships? An example of this is from Grand Theft Auto Vice City. Within this game, the character being controlled has the option of picking up a prostitute on the side of the road and doing whatever he tells his character to do with her. In other words, he can freely chose who he wants to have an intimate relationship with. Is this acceptable within reality or is this just fantasy that drives people to seek out prostitutes within a game? Having the control of another women like that within society is frowned upon so why are male video-gamers allowed to immerse themselves in a fantasy world, with fantasy women for as long as they can possibly stay awake? The addiction’s effects will soon kick in when returning to the real world for could this not make them depressed as if it would like being addicted to something else?
