Which is which?

I think that gameplay is vital when looking at videogame genres. Without this we are stuck trying to find which games are categorised as one game could possibly be listed under more than one category. This would eventually make things a lot more confusing as the newer games are being developed based on traditional games but wouldn’t necessarily be of that one category. Gameplay is vital as the criteria when categorising videogames as it is much easier to base it on the players overall experience - interaction with games systems.

Videogames generally have some sort of obstacle that needs to be overcome so no matter the setting of the game, it can be classed by where the games is played, or the setting of the actual game. By using the setting and purpose of the game it enables one to better identify videogame genre. I do feel that at least if anyone is to categorise a game, it is probably best to see what the game developers intentions were when they began to invent the game.

At the end of the day, I feel that your experiences with the game would involve or mean that you are having fun no matter what genre it is supposed to be, as long as you are enjoying yourself and having fun. After all it is the game developer’s primary intention that we as consumers purchase the videogame and not be disappointed, no matter what genre the game falls into.
